WHAT IS THE HUMAN BODY? (DEFINITION)
According to the World Dictionary, the human body is a unique, highly organised complex structure, it is made up of billions of smaller structures of four main types: cells, tissues, organs and systems that work together to perform specific functions necessary to maintain of human life.
THE HUMAN BODY ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE:
The Bible views the body as a material element that we receive at birth. Imperfect, corrupted by sin, it deteriorates over the years. It is the material, visible and palpable part of the human being.
Functionally, it is like the Temple, the house where the spirit and soul of man live. it is like a protective envelope that allows our soul and our spirit to continue living on earth, it is the house where your soul lives, that is why if your body is destroyed you will be declared physically dead because you can't live in this world without your body, you will automatically become an invisible person.
Attention :
The body of man participates in the dignity of the image of God: it is animated by the soul and spirit which is the spiritual part of the human being.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HUMAN BODY:
To understand the importance of the body, we must ask ourselves the following question: why did God create the human body? Why did he decide to give us a wonderful body? what is the reason?
The body allows us to be physically visible, to move, to eat and to communicate. This human body is extraordinary, it endows it with 5 human senses which allow it to listen, see, smell, touch and speak also to multiply by giving life to other lives.
FIVE TRUTHS TO KNOW ABOUT THE HUMAN BODY:
The Bible views the body as a material element that we receive at birth. Imperfect, corrupted by sin, it deteriorates over the years. It is the material, visible and palpable part of the human being. Here are the 5 truths to know about the human body.
1. CORRUPTED BY SIN:
It is important to know that our human body is corrupted by sin from birth because of the sin of Adan and Eve which affected the entire human race. Even when we come in Christ or when we are born again, God delivers and saves our soul and regenerates our spirit by giving us a new spirit but the body remains the same, meaning it remains corrupt and mortal despite our salvation in Jesus.
We therefore have a responsibility to fight in our corrupt and mortal bodies not to allow the lust that human flesh produces to reign and have dominion over us. the bible says it clearly, do not obey your lusts. This is the reason why in Christ we must crucifier and sacrifice the flesh which is the body by refusing to obey these whims.
ROMANS 6:12
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body and do not obey its lusts.
2. HE OPPOSES THE THINGS OF THE SPIRIT:
According to biblical knowledge the first enemy of your life is your body, because corrupted by sin it regularly produces desires contrary to that of the spirit. It is written: For the flesh desires contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit desires contrary to the flesh; they oppose each other, so that you do not do what you would like.
Example: if you want to fast, the body will tell you to do it tomorrow for some reason, if you want to pray, the body will tell you that it is tired, if you want to read the Bible, the body will start to sleep ect...
GALATIANS 5:17
For the flesh desires contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit desires contrary to the flesh; they oppose each other, so that you do not do what you would like.
3.IN CHRIST WE MUST CRUCIFY AND SACRIFICE THE BODY:
ROMANS 12:1
I exhort you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable worship.
4.THE BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF GOD
According to the Bible, our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, which you receive from God, and who does not belong to you?
1 CORINTHIANS 6:19
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
It is clearly written in the scriptures that our bodies do not belong to us, they belong to God. That's why we need to take care of it, and we need to be aware that we will be judged on how we take care of our bodies.
5. HE WILL BE RESURRECTED IN A NEW FORM IN THE LAST DAY.
In the last day, especially in the day of the last resurrection, God
will give life to our mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in us. But when our body comes back to life, it will be transformed differently from what it was sown or put into the ground.
Example :
it is sown as a natural body, it arises as a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. For this corruptible body must put on incorruptibility, and this mortal body must put on immortality in order to live in eternity with God.
ROMANS 8:11
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
1CORINTHIANS 15:42 ,44 and 53
So it is with the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown corruptible; he rises incorruptible; (…) it is sown as a natural body, it resurrects as a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.(…) For this corruptible body must put on incorruptibility, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
